Do you want to feel the wind on your face while soaring through the sky? Skydiving might be perfect for you if you love adventure. When you jump out of a plane, it usually lasts 5-6 minutes. You will have about 50 seconds of freefall before your parachute is opened. Those seconds will feel like forever as your senses take in all the new experiences! The duration of the parachute flight is approx. 5 minutes.
When you skydive, it is an amazing feeling. You feel like you have no weight and your heart races. It’s like nothing else in the world.
People usually say it is the best experience ever. After your parachute opens, you will slowly float down to the ground while taking in the views from up high and seeing how beautiful everything looks from above.
The length of your skydive will depend on a few things. The higher you jump from, the longer you will be falling. If you weigh more, it will go faster. The equipment used also affects how long and how fast you fall. Knowing what to expect and feeling safe makes skydiving an unforgettable experience. Are you ready for the rush?
First time skydive prep
First time skydiving? Preparing for your first skydive can be a mix of excitement and nerves. But don’t worry, with the right preparation, you can make your first jump a safe and enjoyable experience. Preparation on the ground before take off takes about 10 minutes. Here are some tips to help you get ready:
- Look for a skydiving company which has many good reviews and is safe. Also make sure the instructors have lots of experience.
- Before skydiving you should check the weather report. Skydiving can be dangerous if the weather is not perfect.
- Wear clothes that are comfortable and fit the temperature. You will also get a special jumpsuit to put over your clothes.
- Before you go skydiving, you shouldn’t eat a lot of food. Eat something light and healthy, so that you don’t feel sick during the jump.
- Listen to your instructor: Your instructor will provide you with all the necessary information and safety instructions. Listen carefully and ask questions if you are concerned about anything.
- Stay calm and focused: Skydiving can be a nerve-wracking experience, but try to stay calm and focused. Take deep breaths and focus on the present moment.
- Enjoy the experience: Once you’re up in the air, enjoy the experience! Remember, skydiving is an exhilarating and unforgettable experience, so make the most of it.
The thrilling ascent in airplane
After everyone has boarded the aircraft, it is time to take off. Ascending to the appropriate altitude for the skydive can take varying amounts of time depending on the height of the jump selected.
For instance, a 9,000 foot jump, which is the lowest offered, may require approximately 10 minutes to reach altitude. In contrast, an 18,000 foot jump may necessitate around 15 minutes to reach the appropriate height. These time estimates are subject to variation due to several factors, including the number of people in the plane and weather conditions. Nevertheless, the ascent rarely lasts longer than 30 minutes.
However, if you decide to jump with another dropzone, your ascent may take much longer. In some cases, older aircraft models may require a full 30 minutes to reach the desired altitude.
How long is the freefall?
During the freefall portion of the skydive you will be plummeting toward the ground after exiting the aircraft, accelerating to your ‘terminal velocity‘. This speed will be maintained until it is time to deploy your parachute.
Typically, freefall lasts for about 50 seconds, but this duration can vary depending on factors such as altitude, weight, and jump type. For instance, tandem skydivers typically exit the aircraft at an altitude of 13,500 feet and deploy their parachutes at 5,000 feet. In this case, we calculate the freefall time at 10 seconds for the first 1,000 feet and 5 seconds for each additional 1,000 feet. Consequently, the total freefall time is approximately 50 seconds.
However, for experienced solo skydivers that jump in positions such as standing up, their descent rate is higher, which leads to less time in freefall.
For example, experienced solo jumpers who exit in 13,500 feet in a faster position will experience around 35-40 seconds of freefall time.
How long does it take to fly down under your parachute?
How long does it take to fly the parachute back down to the ground? The time a skydiver takes to fall back to earth depends on several things. These include how high they jumped from the plane, the size of their parachute and their weight.
Tandem skydivers usually open their parachutes at 5000 feet. They use a bigger parachute than people who jump alone, since they share it. The tandem parachute is typically 300 square feet, while the solo parachute is only half that size. This means tandem skydivers can stay under their parachutes for 4-5 minutes.
Skydivers can fly faster by turning their parachute. This is called swooping. It makes the parachute go down faster. Experienced skydivers can spend two to three minutes flying under their parachutes this way.
Total time of a skydive experience
When you go to a skydiving center, the first thing you have to do is check-in and fill out any forms. This may take half an hour or more. Then, you will typically get a safety lesson. You will learn how to use your equipment properly and what it is like when you jump.
You go to the airplane and wait to fly! How long you fly depends on how high up you jump and what plane you use. If you go higher, you will see more things and feel more excited! Going up is so much fun and makes skydiving a cool experience.
Once you’re up high enough, we’re talkin’ thousands of feet up, you’ll gear up for the big jump. And get this, the jump itself is only about 50 seconds long! But those seconds are packed with more adrenaline and excitement than you can imagine.
Then comes the fun part. You’ll glide down to the ground like a superhero, using a parachute to safely land on the ground. And don’t forget to take some epic pics and videos to show off to your friends later! But hold up, the whole adventure doesn’t stop there. Although you are in the air for just a few minutes, the total time of your skydiving experience can range from 2 to 4 hours depending on a bunch of factors like the size of your group, the availability of instructors, and other logistical stuff. So make sure you’re ready for a day full of thrills and chills.
